Overview of copper blowing process

Release time:2024-01-07 00:43 Views:

The sulfur-making process completes the separation of copper and most of the iron. Finally, the iron, sulfur and other impurities in the copper matte need to be removed to obtain blister copper. The copper matte also needs to be blown. At present, most of the copper matte blowing process is carried out in the P-S converter. The whole process is divided into two stages. In the first stage, the FeS in the copper matte undergoes a strong oxidation reaction with the oxygen blown into the air to generate FeO and SO2 gases. FeO reacts with the added quartz flux to form slag, causing the sulfur content to become slag. The amount of copper gradually increased. Slag and copper matte separate into layers due to their low mutual solubility and different densities. In the second stage of blowing, the oxygen blown into the air undergoes a strong oxidation reaction with Cu2S to generate Cu2O and SO2. Cu2O reacts with the unoxidized Cu2S to generate metal Cu and SO2, until the generated blister copper contains more than 98.5% copper. The second stage of blowing is over.
